Celebrity 100 Sneak Peek: Dropoffs

Until this past weekend, it had been two years since Brad Pitt starred in a major movie. Moneyball, which hit theaters in September 2011, earned $110 million at the box office and two Oscar nominations for Pitt (for starring and producing). But after that, the actor kind of disappeared.

Blame World War Z. The zombie apocalypse movie (which grossed $66 million over the weekend) started filming in June 2011. Unable to find the right tone, the filmmakers had to go back and do many reshoots, changing the ending in the process. As the star and a producer, Pitt was deeply involved in the movie, and it took him off the market for more than a year.

The Celebrity 100 is based on earnings and fame between June 2012 and June 2013. During that time Pitt earned an estimated $17 million, less than the actors who made our list. His fame quotient wasnt strong enough for him to overcome his relatively low earnings.

So Pitt, who has ranked on our list for each of the last nine years, falls off for 2013.

Pitt is just one of 34 members of the 2012 Celeb 100 who failed to make the cut this year. Check back Wednesday for our full list. In the meantime, heres a sneak peak at a few other folks who didnt make the cut.

Adele

The singer still sells plenty of music but without a big global tour, it was hard for her to make our list this year. The new mom got plenty of attention this year for Skyfall, her theme for the latest Bond movie. It won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Johnny Depp

Dont worry, Depps power isnt failing him. The star fell off our list this year because hes in a project hole. He was paid his upfront fee for The Lone Ranger last year and wont earn any backend money (assuming there is any) from the film for a few months. Depps big 2012 movie, Dark Shadows, struggled at the box office.

Taylor Lautner

With Twilight at an end, Lautner has to build a career outside of the supernatural franchise. His non-Twilight debut, Abduction, was a bust. Hell have a small role in the upcoming Adam Sandler film Grown Ups 2.

Britney Spears

With no tour this year, Spears earnings fell dramatically. Her one-season stint on The X Factor wasnt enough to land Spears back on our Celebrity 100 list.
